IB EXAM REGISTRATION FOR MAY 2010

It’s that time of year again when we need to process information for registering those students who will be taking the International Baccalaureate exams this coming May.  It is very important that those students taking exams and their parents read the following information carefully:

Who will be registered?
Only those students in the following IBDP classes will be registered for this exam session:

  • IB English II, both HL and SL                      IB Biology II, HL
  • IB Arabic, SL                                             IB Physics SL
  • IB French II, both HL and SL                       IB Mathematics II, HL and SL
  • IB Spanish II, both HL and SL                     IB Math Studies, SL
  • IB Spanish Fluent Speakers II, HL               IB Music SL
  • IB History II (Americas/Topics) HL              IB Theatre II, HL and SL
  • IB Geography SL                                           IB Visual Arts II, HL and SL
  • IB Business & Management I, SL                  IB Theory of Knowledge (Diploma students only)
  • IB Business & Management II, HL

Note that all IB classes not listed above (e.g., year one of a two-year IB course) will not be examined, and
therefore not registered for the May 2010 session.

How will students be registered?
All registration information for each examining student will be pre-printed.  The IBDP coordinator, Mr. Roylance, will be visiting all examining classes (listed above) to distribute this information either on Wednesday, November 4 and Thursday, November 5.  At this time, each IB examining student will be asked to verify his/her registration data. Additionally, each student will be given a copy of  the FCPS/IBDP contract.  This contract must be signed by both the student and parent/guardian and returned to any of the student’s IB teachers by no later than Wednesday, 11 November 2009.

What is the FCPS/IBDP contract?
Fairfax County Public Schools pays all IB exam fees.  Fees are due from FCPS to IB shortly after the final registration deadline in November.  Since the County is paying “up front” for students who will be taking their IB exams next May, the contract is simply a document that explains the obligations of each student to follow the rules and regulations of completing IB courses and the requisite assessments. By signing the contract, the student and parent/guardian are acknowledging their understanding and acceptance of these rules. One important part of the agreement is that each student ensure that his/her parent(s)/guardian(s) have read and understood both the contract and the IB regulations by November 11, 2009.  If the student complies with all the tenants of the contract, all his/her exam fees will be paid by FCPS. If the student fails to comply, then penalty fees may apply (see #’s5 and 6 of the contract).

Where can we find these documents relevant to IB registration?
Right here on the Stuart HS website.  In order to save lots of trees, we are posting copies of both the FCPS/IBDP contract and the IBO regulations at the following links:

If you would like hard copies of either or both documents, or if your have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the IBDP coordinator at (703) 824-3945 or at DRRoylance@fcps.edu
