CONGRATULATIONS RACHEL BOOTS ('10) - SELECTED FOR THE WILLIAM AND MARY LEADERSHIP AWARD
Each spring, every high school in Virginia is invited to nominate one member of the junior class to receive the William and Mary Leadership Award. Each high school is in charge of its own nomination process but is encouraged to select a student whose leadership is recognized by faculty and by students, who shows school loyalty that inspires others to contribute and participate, who exhibits a passion for learning characterized by a pursuit of out-of-class intellectual experiences, who is an independent thinker, who pursues a rigorous academic program, and whose grades place him or her near the top of the class.
Every student nominated by his or her high school receives the William and Mary Leadership Award and is invited to come to campus for one weekend the following fall during the senior year to attend the William and Mary Leadership Conference. Seminars that explore the qualities and applications of leadership--including how to transition from a high school leader to a campus leader--are offered, and the students have the opportunity to interact with other young leaders from all over the state.
Congratulations Rachel!

CONGRATULATIONS TO STUART'S STUDENT SERVICES WHO WON THE RECOGNIZED ASCA MODEL PROGRAM (RAMP) AWARD
J.E.B. Stuart's Student Services will receive the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation during a special ceremony at the American School Counselor Association’s (ASCA) annual conference in Dallas, Texas. J.E.B. Stuart's Student Services, as well as 71 other school counseling programs from 14 states that reach across the K-12 spectrum, will be honored on June 29 for making an exemplary commitment to comprehensive school counseling programs, ASCA officials announced today.
The RAMP designation, awarded to schools that align with the criteria set in the ASCA National Model, recognizes schools that are committed to delivering a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and an exemplary educational environment. More than 250 schools have received the RAMP designation since the program’s inception. Jim Bierma, ASCA’s 2008-09 president, said this year’s recipients are to be commended for their dedication to serving all students and demonstrating how effective school counseling programs can make a difference in students’ lives.
“This year’s RAMP honorees have shown their commitment to students and the school counseling profession,” said Bierma, the lead counselor for Minneapolis Public Schools. “This designation distinguishes these schools and encourages school counselors nationwide to continue to strive for success.”
RAMP applications are reviewed once a year by a panel of school counseling professionals. The American School Counselor Association (www.schoolcounselor.org) is a worldwide nonprofit organization based in Alexandria, Va. Founded in 1952, ASCA supports school counselors’ efforts to help students focus on academic, personal/social and career development so they not only achieve success in school but are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society. The association provides professional development, publications and other resources, research and advocacy to 25,000 professional school counselors around the globe.
