Review transcript and develop “college application
plan” with your counselor.
Finalize a list of colleges.
Send for applications.
Register for the October or November SAT I, SAT II, ACT, TOEFL with the
College Board.
Listen for announcements of college visits to the Career Center.
Complete NCAA forms.
Attend all guidance-sponsored programs about college admissions.
Be aware of your guidance department’s college application procedures.
Continue visiting colleges. Note application deadlines.
October
Complete the application packet for counselors.
Get 5 recommendations from teachers.
Submit early decision transcript requests to the transcript secretary
no later than October 1.
Attend the College Fair at Fair Oaks Mall or College Night at Hayfield
Secondary School.
Submit requests for recommendations to your counselor at least 4 weeks
before the application deadline.
Begin researching financial aid and scholarships. Consult the Career Center
for scholarship information.
Begin drafting college essays—review them with your parents, English
teachers, and counselor.
Apply for ROTC scholarships.
November
Continue visiting colleges.
Maintain grades and extracurricular activities.
Make sure your SAT and ACT scores are sent to JEB Stuart and directly
to the colleges to which you are applying. Your counselor is not responsible
for sending them to your colleges.
Mail early decision applications before November deadlines.
December
Watch for early decision notification.
Pick up the FAFSA financial aid form in the Career Center or apply for
your PIN number online.
Submit college applications with early January deadlines by December 1.
Attend the Financial Aid workshop.
January
Submit financial aid forms as soon as possible after
January 1.
Review first semester grades with counselor. Do not drop any classes without
notifying your colleges.
February
Maintain a high level of academic performance.
March
Schedule overnight visits at top choice colleges.
Complete any additional college applications.
April
Respond to college admissions decisions.
Finalize your choice.
May
Rewrite acceptance and non-acceptance letters.
Send the required paperwork and fees to chosen college.
Send thank-you notes to teachers and counselors who advised and assisted
you.
June
Relax and enjoy graduation.
