College Planning Calendar Junior Year

October

Take the PSAT/NMSQT in October.
Gather information about colleges at the College Fair / College Night.

December/January/February

Plan senior course selections to enhance your college admission chances.
Take an interest inventory to clarify your career/college planning goals.
Learn about college course offerings, size, location, admission requirements, deadlines, and costs.
Take a test preparation course for the SAT I. (Stuart or private)

March/April/May

Take the appropriate college admission tests [SAT I, SAT II, ACT, or TOEFL], especially if you are applying early decision or discontinuing a subject, such as French or Chemistry.
Search computerized information systems for appropriate colleges and programs.
Attend the GMU college fair program in April.
If possible, visit colleges over the spring break.
If applicable, begin the application process for service academy appointments and ROTC scholarships.

June/July

Try to visit several colleges and narrow your list to 5 or 6 realistic choices.
Where appropriate, make interview appointments for the early fall.
Create a “resume” of high school activities.
Contact teachers to write letters of recommendation.
