The Application Process

1. Send for college application and catalogs as early as possible.

2. Check application deadlines in your college catalogs – early decision, regular, or rolling admissions.

3. Check to see the tests required for admission and mail in the registration form well before the deadline. Information on the SAT I: Reasoning Test and SAT II: Subject Tests may be obtained in the Career Center.

4. Fill out all forms in this packet completely and return them to the Transcript Secretary, as soon as possible.

5. Give five teachers of your choice, the TEACHER RECOMMENDATION REQUEST form. Use the sample in this packet and xerox four more copies. The information your teachers provide counselors help counselors write a letter of recommendation for you.

6. Some colleges require an additional recommendation from a teacher. When asking a teacher to write a formal letter of recommendation, you must give him/her a stamped envelope, addressed to the college.

7. Xerox copies of your applications and fill out the copies for practice. Xerox a copy of your final application for your records.

8. Application essays should be written by the student and proofread by your parent/guardian and your English teacher before being attached to the application.

9. MAIL YOUR APPLICATION ALONG WITH THE APPROPRIATE FEES DIRECTLY TO THE COLLEGE ADMISSIONS OFFICE.
(You may want to send it Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested.)

10. All requests for transcripts MUST be given to the transcript secretary four (4) weeks (or twenty school days) before the application deadline. All forms in the application process packet must be completed and signed by the parent or guardian and the student before being accepted for processing. After being logged in, your packet will be delivered to your counselor for further processing.

11. The transcript secretary will mail a copy of your transcript, test scores, counselor recommendation, and profile of FCPS to the colleges listed on your request. Three (3) free transcripts are provided. There is a $4.00 charge for each additional transcript, which must be paid when the request is submitted.

REMEMBER: FOUR WEEKS IS NEEDED TO PROCESS YOUR PAPERWORK AND PREPARE IT FOR MAILING. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ALONG THE WAY, PLEASE ASK YOUR COUNSELOR FOR HELP. HE/SHE IS HERE TO HELP YOU!
