Senior Checklist

  • Carefully research and select the colleges to which you want to apply. Include “safe” schools (schools that you know will accept you based on your qualifications) and “reach” schools (schools you’re not sure will accept you).
  • Download applications (including the secondary school or counselor report) for all schools to which you will apply. Make a list of all schools, including their deadlines.
  • Make sure you have called ETS (College Board) or ACT (American Testing Program) to arrange that scores be sent to all the schools to which you are applying.
  • Have a conference with your counselor so she / he can write your recommendation.
  • Fill out your portion of the secondary school or counselor report, making sure that you have filled in all the information that is pertinent to you.
  • Submit the transcript request form, signed by one parent, listing all the schools to which you will apply and attach a check for the appropriate amount. Do this well in advance of the due date for applications—at least 4 weeks before the deadlines
  • Give the secondary school or counselor report forms (not all colleges have one) to your counselor about 4 weeks before the deadline. Make sure whether or not the schools to which you’re applying require this form.
  • Make sure you have carefully printed or typed all required information on your part of the applications. Also, ensure that your application has the necessary signatures.
  • Write the best and most appropriate essay for the colleges to which you will apply.
  • Make sure your part of the application is complete (check included) and mail all applications well before the deadlines.
