The U.S. military provides students with opportunities for career training and further education—

  • In the Army

  • In the Navy

  • In the Air Force

  • In the Marines

  • In the National Guard

All military career training and educational programs require very specific comments of time and training. Military obligations require a serious commitment to a lifestyle that has rewards as well as restrictions. Signed contracts should be read carefully. Always involve parents, your counselors, and other adults to help you through these decisions that have long-range implications.

Academies

The Army, Air Force, and the Coast Guard have colleges (or academies) where they train students to be military leaders. These academies are very selective colleges and require a special nomination from your congressman or the president of the United States. See your counselor or the Career Center specialist for more information about this process, which begins in the spring of your junior year.

ROTC Program

Reserve Officer Training is a process where by students attend certain 4-year colleges where they study the field of their choice as well as military leadership. ROTC scholarships and monthly stipends are also available to students who qualify. This process is also very selective.

Enlistment Opportunities

Students can "join" the Army, Air Force, Navy, or the Marines by applying and meeting their requirements. Enlistment commitments vary in the amount of time a person must serve.
