Care & Share

The very basic goal of the Care & Share Committee to unite the school community in assuring that every student has equal access to the services and resources that are available here at Stratford Landing.

We know that in order for a child to learn at his optimum best, he or she must arrive at school warm, fed, confident and ready to learn.

The Care & Share Committee together with our dedicated school counselors provide programs and support throughout the school year to children who are facing financial and other types of hardship.

Discovery Garden

When students work in a school garden they learn stewardship to their school, to their community, and to each other.  They begin to think about the importance of caring for space, the importance of building habitats, the importance of beauty, and they strive to make their visions a reality. And the visions in young children’s minds are well worth bringing to fruition.

Or contact Eleanor Whitaker, Discovery Garden Chair at eleanor.whitaker@gmail.com.

Net Gazettea

The Gazette has traditionally been a printed newsletter sent by the PTA to keep you informed about PTA activities, events and other important and hopefully useful information.  You’ll still find a headline list of Gazette articles listed in your Dolphin Digest, but in an effort to conserve paper and “go green,” the PTA has decided to discontinue a printed version of the Gazette.  Now the Net Gazette, all articles referenced in the Dolphin Digest will be found via the Net Gazette which you can find on the PTA home page.  Look for the dolphin!  After 30 days, you’ll find Net Gazette articles in the Archive.

To submit articles to the Net Gazette or Dolphin Digest or for more information or to volunteer your time, contact the committee chairperson Pam Koger-Jesup at netgazette@gmail.com

Building & Grounds

The Building & Grounds Committee picks up where the  custodial staff leaves off with outdoor projects such as grounds clean ups in both the fall and spring of each school year.  We work on gardening projects such as actually creating new flower gardens and  weeding, mulching and  planting in existing gardens on school grounds.  In the hot summer months, we share the responsibility of watering and weeding to keep the plants healthy for all to enjoy the following school year.  We've planted gardens such a the butterfly garden on the SACC side of the building so that all may enjoy the benefits of butterfly-attracting flowers.   This also ties in with the Discovery Garden idea in which the students may have hands-on experience with nature and all it has to offer.

Not only does this committee beautify the outside of the property, along with aiding in outdoor hands-on education, we also work hard at "being green" and aiding the school with recycling efforts.  We are constantly looking for new ways to improve our methods currently in place at Stratford Landing and hope to involve the students in our efforts to "reduce, reuse, recycle".    Our goal is not to simply beautify but to teach the children that "green" truly is the answer to the future and all it can be.

To volunteer your time or find out more about this green committee, contact Leisha Heyde at chef-leisha@mindspring.com.

Performing Arts

This is a brand new committee at Stratford Landing.  Its purpose is to bring the performing arts into the school, which has been accomplished in a number of ways in the past.  The PTA organizes four assemblies per year for the entire school and assists teachers in grades 1-6 with organizing grade-level assemblies or events.  The PTA also organizes various family fun nights, which have included last year’s amazing Multicultural Night and entertainment for the annual Spring Fling.  Finally, this group will organize the National PTA’s Reflections program, which invites students to enter original projects in the arts.  Entries are judged and honored at a reception, and winners participate at higher levels.

If you want to help bring the arts into our school, please check this committee on the Volunteer Form.  An organizational meeting will be held in September to brainstorm ideas and begin planning events for the school year.
