Happy Summer Stratford Landing ~

We are thrilled to announce that Mrs. Christine Prahl has been appointed as our second assistant principal here at Stratford Landing. Mrs. Prahl joins Mrs. Shannon and me on our administrative team for the 2015-16 school year.

Mrs. Prahl began her career in 2002 as a first grade teacher. During her time as a first grade teacher she earned a Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Virginia. From there she had the opportunity to work as a Reading Recovery teacher and Reading Intervention teacher. After several years in first grade, she transitioned to Special Education and worked with 5th grade while acting as the Local Screening Chairperson.

Mrs. Prahl received her Educational Leadership endorsement from George Mason University and in 2013, she transitioned to the Instructional Coach position here at Stratford Landing. As the Instructional Coach she worked with teachers to develop capacity around research-based instructional practices, revamped the master schedule to better meet the needs of students, and provided expertise in both Intervention and Project Based Learning. Mrs. Prahl is passionate about all students exceeding their own expectations and becoming positive role models in our communities.

When not busy at school, Mrs. Prahl enjoys time with her family. Her husband, Dave, is an 8th grade Health and P.E. teacher at South County Middle School. They have 3 children, Abby is 7 and starting 2nd grade, Jake is 6 and starting 1st grade, and Noah is 2. The Prahl's love to swim all year and visit grandparents whenever they can! Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Prahl to our administrative team at Stratford Landing.

Sincerely,

Maureen Marshall, Ed.D.

Principal

The SLES Summer Book Mobile is Coming!

The Stratford Landing Summer Book Mobile is a mobile library that drives around the Stratford Landing community stopping at complexes and neighborhoods to allow children to check-out books over the summer months.  The Summer Book Mobile provides an opportunity for students to continue to focus on literacy and prepare themselves for the year to come.  Every Wednesday for six weeks, July 8th through August 5th, Stratford Landing staff & parents will help students choose books.  The books available will consist of many different topics.  We look forward to seeing you at the Summer Book Mobile next month!

Volunteers needed to drive the Book Mobile this Summer!  Volunteers will pick up crates of books at school (approximately 6 crates), plus a cooler of popsicles and go to 3 locations for Book Mobile.  Volunteer unloads books at location, encourages children to take a look and have a free popsicle and goes to 2 other locations to do the same and then returns everything to school.  Time commitment is approximately 2-3 hours per date.  Easily a 1 person job, but grabbing a friend or participating as a family is fun, too!  Dates are Wed mornings in July and August from 9:45am until 12:30.  Sign up here to volunteer! http://vols.pt/CQZ5Tg
