Library Lessons
Fun for All Grades!
Grades K-2: K-2 come to the library every week for a 30 minute story and check-out time. Kindergarteners may check out one book per visit and need to bring their book back each week in order to check out another book. Grade 1 may have two books checked out at a time and Grade 2 may have three books at a time. We will spend some time learning how the library works and how to find a book that's just right for you.
Grade 3: Grade 3 comes to the library every week for 30 minutes. We will have a checkout time, "Library Lessons" learning to use the online library catalog, reference materials, and databases. We will also read a few of the Virginia Young Reader program books together.
Grade 4-6: Grades 4-6 come to the library every other week for a checkout time and lessons on using the library resources (both print and online) for research.
The Spring Hill Library mission is to help students and staff become good information users in an information age. "Information Literacy" means knowing what sources of information are available and how to use them correctly.
About our Librarian
Welcome to the Spring Hill Library Website. We hope you find it useful. Please use the buttons on the home page to access: the Online Catalog to see what books the library has and if they are checked out or not, the Online Databases available to all Fairfax County students, and other library programs like the “Virginia Reader’s Choice” booklist.
I have been the Librarian at Spring Hill since 2003. I love children and I love books. My goal is to bring them together. I want each student to be “information literate” – able to find good information whether it is online or in print and use it well. I introduce students to good literature- old and new and help them find that “special” book that leads to a lifelong love of reading.
