Your school clinic is staffed during school hours by a Clinic Room Aide who provides basic care to sick and injured students according to Fairfax County guidelines.
Sick Children
If your child becomes ill during the school day and needs to be in the clinic longer than 30 minutes, the parent or designated emergency contact will be notified to take the child home. If the principal or designee considers the situation an emergency, the rescue squad will be called and parents notified. A sick child does not learn well, so please keep sick children home. Check with your physician if your child has a rash to make sure that it is not contagious and if it is, notify the school.
Emergency Contact Information
It's very important that you keep work, home and emergency contact information up-to-date. Please update your child's emergency contact information in We Care, which is part of FCPS 24-7 Learning. Please visit this page for more information about FCPS 24-7 Learning.
Medication
Medication may be given during school hours following specific guidelines.
-
Prescription medication must be labeled and dated by the pharmacy.
-
All medication must be transported to the clinic by an adult.
Students may not carry medication with them during the school day (such as inhalers) unless they have a Medication Authorization form (PDF) filled out. This includes prescription and over the counter medication.
-
Over the counter medications for pain relief (such as Advil or Tylenol) may be given throughout the school year with a Medication Authorization Form completed by the parent. All other OTC (such as cough medicine) may be given for only 10 consecutive days with a form completed by a parent.
-
All other medications (such as Ritalin or inhalers) require a Medication Authorization Form completed and signed by both a parent and the physician.
-
Please contact the clinic if your child is required to have emergency medication available or has other special health or medical needs of which the school staff should be advised.
