There are many opportunities to help enrich you child’s experience at Shrevewood. Please review the following list carefully. Check the areas you are most interested in and return this form to the school office or your child’s teacher as soon as possible. Please try to make a commitment to get involved, even if it is only an occasional hour or two. A small investment of your time reaps large dividends in the life of your child.
Opportunities are coded for approximate time commitments as follows: Single Event (EV), Whole School Year (WSY), or As Needed (AN). We have included the scheduled date or timeframe where possible.

FUNDRAISING

Gift Wrap Sale (EV-Sept.) – Our largest fund-raiser of the year. Help reconcile order forms, or distribute merchandise. |
|
Spring Event (EV)-There are many ways to help with this community-building event. Get involved with planning, logistics or help on the day of the event. |
|
Advertising (WSY)-Help solicit advertising from area businesses for our PTA Newsletter. |
|
On-Line Shopping (WSY)-Minimal time commitment. |
|
Giant/Safeway Bonus Program (Sept./Oct.)-Help families designate Shrevewood as a beneficiary on their Giant and Safeway Bonus cards. |
|
Box Tops for Education (WSY)-Coordinate points program for tickets remitted to Shrevewood. |
|
Restaurant Fundraiser (EV-Dec. & Apr.) – A fun night at a local restaurant! Coordinate with restaurant and Shrevewood families and staff. |
CULTURAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Bingo Night (EV-March)-Wholesome family fun! Help sell tickets, call numbers, verify “bingo”, solicit donations or help with prizes. |
|
Staff Basketball Game (EV- April) – Help Shrevewood Owls to victory over a rival school. Workers needed for evening of game. |
|
Halloween Party (EV-Oct.)-Help create a “Spooktacular” evening. |
|
Thanksgiving Lunch (EV-Nov.)-Help the food service staff serve up all the fixings for this great traditional lunch. |
|
International Night (EV-Nov.)-Assist in planning and staging this special cultural heritage celebration. Bring your favorite dish and set up a display. |
SCHOOL ASSISTANCE
|
Library Aide (AN)-Assist library staff with shelving books, reading to students, etc… |
|
Clinic Aide (AN)-Serve as backup to Shrevewood’s clinic aide. |
|
Classroom Volunteer (AN) –Assist teacher in the classroom. |
|
S.O.L. Tutoring (EV-Dates TBA)-Help students review material for Virginia’s S.O.L tests. |
|
Core Knowledge Speakers (AN)-Share your special expertise with students. More information and specific areas of interest will be sent in Oct. |
|
Reading is Fundamental ( RIF) (EV –Fall/Spring)-Help distribute books to students. |
|
Read Across America (EV-March)-Spend an hour or two reading to students. |
|
Book Fair (EV-Oct.)-Assist students in selecting appropriate books. |
|
Health Screening Day (EV-Sept.)-Assist with hearing and vision screening. |
|
Picture Day (EV-Oct.)-Help with forms and making smiles! |
|
Computer Lab Aide (AN)-Assist Shrevewood staff with a variety of computer tasks. |
|
Hands-on-Science (Oct.-June)-Teach this “pre-packaged” course; no previous science of teaching experience necessary. Paid position. |
|
Wellness Fair (EV-June) Help coordinate speakers and community participants. |
|
Field Day (EV-June)-Support student athletes as they compete in activities. |
|
Business Partnership Steering Committee (meets 3-4 times during school year)-Help develop strategies for utilizing Shrevewood’s business partners, explore outreach opportunities. |
|
Landscaping (AN)-Help maintain the beautiful landscaping around the school. |
|
Wellness Committee (WSY)-Help Shrevewood staff with healthy year long projects. |
|
Room Parent/PTA Liaison (WSY)-1or 2 parents needed per class. Duties vary according to teacher. PTA Liaison will serve as PTA contact for communication, coordinating volunteers an/or donations to support PTA sponsored events. |
PTA SUPPORT
|
Public Relations Rep. (AN)-Work with PTA and Shrevewood staff to highlight school activities to local newspapers and community. |
|
PTA Newsletter (AN)-Help with production and distribution of monthly newsletter. |
|
Wee Deliver (WSY)-Help with this in-school mail service program |
|
Interpreter (WSY)-Interpret for parents at school meetings/events, and or translate newsletters. Please indicate language. |
|
Staff Appreciation Week (EV-May)-Help coordinate this special week of events for our Shrevewood staff. |
|
Directory (EV-Sept.)-Assist with copying and distribution. |
