Music at Sangster
Music is an integral part of a child's complete education. Through music, children can make connections to their classroom work, relationships, and emotions. In our increasingly hectic society, music helps children to develop their humanity.
The Fairfax County Music Program of Studies is organized into four strands, which correspond with the Music SOL's (Standards of Learning) for Virginia Public Schools. The strands are: Perform, Investigate, Create, Connect. All grades will use these strands to explore the objectives for the year.
At Sangster, students take part in a variety of musical experiences that are based on the program of studies. All grade levels sing, move, and create. In addition, grades three through six, students learn to play the recorder as a means of developing musical literacy. Grades five and six perform in grade-level concerts that mirror their respective curricula.
