About Our Program

                Art at Sangster is taught by two teachers, Rebecca Summers and Catherine Stephis, who both hold teaching degrees in art education.  Second grade through sixth grade students have art once every two weeks for one hour and twenty minutes.  Kindergarten and first grade classes meet weekly for one hour. 

                Our focus in the art room is to help students develop problem solving skills as they learn to use various art media.  It is our hope that through this creative, idea generating process, children will better understand themselves as well as others as they learn about their world through art.  Both art teachers are committed to helping students learn through our FCPS elementary art curriculum.

                Each year students will engage in drawing, painting, clay building, printmaking, paper collage, weaving, and or stitching.  These projects are proudly displayed throughout our school.

 

 

Special Programs

Sangster participates in our Lake Braddock Pyramid show every spring.  The show is held at Lake Braddock High School, and it is a wonderful and fun display of art and artists from elementary, middle school and high school students.  Several pieces of Sangster student art are chosen for display each year.
