Dear Parents/Guardians:

 

This year, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will continue a summer reading requirement in order to encourage reading.  Each student completing grades five through eleven is required to read at least one book over the summer months.  Follow-up procedures have been developed by your child’s high school, and these will be implemented in the fall.

 

Attached are suggested books for middle and high school students.  Also included in the high school suggested reading list is a list of sources to help students and their families find a book for this assignment.   However, students may read any book comparable to books on the lists and approved by their parents.  If a student has received a summer reading requirement connected with a specific high school course,

this reading also satisfies the FCPS requirement.

 

Reading is crucial to academic achievement, and I urge you to encourage your child to read many books, magazines, and newspaper articles over the summer months.
