Academic Tutoring

Students are invited to come by after school to one of the assigned quiet locations to get assistance with homework or simply complete homework at their own pace.  Students must bring their own materials and must be quiet, as there will be other students working on assignments at the same time.

Baton Twirling

Learn the fundamentals of twirling a baton! No tryouts ... just learn to twirl like a professional. This group will perform a few times per year for school functions and activities, but is mainly about just learning to twirl and enjoying a new skill.

Book Club There are some really spectacular books written for young adults! Students who participate in the club can make book suggestions, and Mrs. VanOrden will offer ideas, too. We will read books that club members WANT to read! We'll talk about the books we're reading too, while we have a snack. The club is NOT like English class or school! Boys Running Club Both 7th and 8th grade boys are invited to participate in weekly 2-4 mile runs around the school and community.  Students are advised in food nutrition and light weightlifting in preparation for the Annual 5K Pantherlon race held in May. 151 Mr. Tobe Tue/Thurs - A & B
Chess Club Chess Club provides students with a fun opportunity to develop important mental skills such as abstract reasoning, problem solving and visualization, which will carry over into their academic subjects.  150 Mr. Chase Thurs - A & B
College Partnership Program

The College Partnership Program is designed to help students become familiar with college preparation and enrollment.  Students are advised on middle and high school courses and school choices that will be beneficial to college preparation.

Debate Club Do you like the art of arguing? Do you want your opinion to be heard? Do you enjoy discussing current events? If you answered YES to any of these questions then the Debate Club is for you! 145 Mrs. Maraini & Mrs. Smith Mon. - A session only
Drama Club Every year the Drama Club puts on several theatre productions.  We perform plays and musicals for the public.  Students get a chance to act, sing, dance, and work on sound crew, light crew, costume crew, and backstage crew. George Mason Univ. Early Identification Program

An innovative, multiyear college preparatory program for first-generation college-bound middle and high school students. The overall purpose of EIP is to increase the number of students who will be the first in their family to attend college by heightening their academic aspirations.
EIP students consist of pre-selected 8th grade students who will receive weekly tutoring and academic support throughout the school year.

Girl Power This club is designed for females only! Young ladies are invited to come out and participate in activities and discussion that will help to build a positive self image and help eliminate poor decisions. 101 Ms. Perry Wed. - A & B
Girls on Track The girls train twice a week to run a distance of no more than 3.1 miles (5K). We discuss topics that concern middle school girls and build self-esteem through team building activities and training. April - June
Go Green Go Green is working to make Carl Sandburg Middle School more environmentally friendly.  Our first task is to re-introduce aluminum can and print cartridge recycling.  By the end of the year we hope to recycle plastic and paper. 120 Mrs. Karg

Hacky Sac Club Hacky Sac Club is intended to be a fun, low-key, after-school activity open to all students. Hacky Sac is a game in which a small bag of beans is kicked around among a small group, much like "juggling" a soccer ball. Hacky Sac is a non-competitive, social activity. Science Olympiad The primary objectives of The Science Olympiad program is to: Excite students about science. Inspire inventiveness in students. Theatre Sports Theatre Sports is Sandburg’s very own improvisation team.   It is similar to the popular TV show “Whose Line is it Anyway.”  Students play improv games and compete in tournaments throughout the county.   Auditions for the team are in October. 109 Mrs. Malone Varies depending on tournament dates
