Rocky Run Middle School is committed to promoting active participation in extracurricular activities to support the academic mission and enrich the lives of students. Students who engage in these programs are more likely to develop positive attitudes towards school, achieve full academic potential, and become productive citizens. Students are encouraged to maintain a balance between their instructional studies, after school activities, and other outside interests.
After school activities begin September 29, 2008 and continue through June 12, 2009, with the exception of Kickstart, Fitness Club, First Lego League and Drama Club which begin earlier in September. Late bus trasportation is offered three days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. As a guideline, Mondays are reserved for club activities and Thursdays are reserved for academic assistance. Students are dismissed at 4:00 p.m. on these days and late buses depart ten to 20 minutes later. Wednesdays are mostly reserved for sports with student dismissal at 4:15 p.m. and late bus departure ten minutes later. Extended hours are offered Monday through Friday until 5:45 p.m. with parent pick-up required. Parents may be charged a late fee and/or participation denied if their child is not picked up by 6 p.m. more than twice during the school year. In case of early closing due to inclement weather or emergency conditions, all after-school activities will be cancelled and all bus students will be sent home on their regular buses. After school activities take place only on days in which school is in session until 2:50 p.m
Students may sign-up for clubs beginning September 22, 2008 during lunch in the cafeteria. Several clubs including Homework Club, Game-Time, Chess and Games Club, Soccer Club, Volleyball and Greenies, do not require prior sign-ups. Students may attend at will. To register your child for Fitness Club or Kickstart, please contact Lisa Dejo as soon as possible. All other sign-ups must be done by the student during sign-up week. All students staying after school for any reason must have a parental consent form filled out and submitted to the front office the first week of school.
Students should contact the activity sponsor for a schedule of events related to their program. All required schedule adjustments will be noted during morning announcements and/or on the after school calendar in the cafeteria. Students are reminded to make prior arrangements with their teacher and notify parents (24 hours) before staying after school for academic assistance. Students are not permitted to exit the building prior to reporting for an after school activity. If students are present on the bus ramp or in the kiss and ride area at the regular departure time, they will be expected to proceed home in the established timely manner. Participants should report to the activity sponsor by 3:00 p.m. when attendance is taken and submitted to the office staff. Only these students will receive late bus transportation. Students attempting to board late buses without such approval will be subject to disciplinary action.
After school programs have been expanded to a five day schedule to help alleviate potential conflicts and allow students an opportunity to access a broader range of offerings. If a conflict exists, students should honor their commitment for academic assistance in their core or high school credited subjects (math, science, social studies, english, or foreign language) followed by assigned detentions, assistance in other subject areas, and then enrichment programs. If conflicts regarding assigned detention cannot be resolved within a two week period, teachers should contact their grade level administrator for assistance.
