Personally Owned Computing Devices at RRMS
Information from RRMS and FCPS about Student Owned Devices:
Process for students who wish to bring in their personal computing devices:
- - Parent and student read the documents posted on the RRMS website (FCPS Guidelines and Best Practices).
- - Parent and student print form posted on the RRMS website (Rocky Run Middle School Form).
- - Student brings in the signed form and turns into their activity teacher.
- - Student checks in device in the technology office (located in Media Center) during activity or after school on the dates below.
- After the initial check in of devices, students will arrange a time to check in during activity.
- - Once the device has been registered, it will be given a sticker so that teachers know the device has been checked in.

FAQ:
Do teachers have to allow student use of personal devices in their classrooms?
- The use of personally owned devices in the classroom is at the teacher’s discretion.
Can students use devices in between classes?
- Student use of devices is not permitted in the hallways or cafeteria during the school day. If students are using devices before or after school, it should be under the supervision of a faculty member.
What about smart phones (iPhones or Android)?
- Rocky Run will only be approving devices such as laptops, netbooks, or tablets for use in the building. Students should not use their cell phones and Smart Phones in the building.
What about the security of personally owned devices?
- Students are responsible for their own devices while they are in the building. The school is not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged devices. Information about this can be found in the FCPS Guidelines located on the RRMS website.
What if a student has difficulty using their device?
- Rocky Run is not responsible for troubleshooting any personally owned devices. Students who want to use their devices should have a basic understanding of how to operate them.
