Leadership Team Commitments
We establish these guiding principles as a reflection of our commitments as administrators at Rocky Run Middle School.
Therefore we will:
- Work together with all members of the school community to establish the conditions needed to bring each child to full academic potential and develop an expectation of "excellence in all endeavors."
- Place student learning and safety above all other considerations in our decision making.
- Recognize the preeminent role of teachers in the learning process and provide them with the time, support, and resources necessary to foster student achievement.
- Promote a thorough understanding of the mission, vision, and commitments in place at Rocky Run. Observe, celebrate, and protect these values. Acknowledge and address behaviors that are inconsistent with the goals of the school.
- Act in a professional manner with integrity and honesty. Develop collegial relationships distinguished by open communication, caring and respect. Demonstrate an appreciation for the value of human diversity.
- Model the behaviors called for in the Rocky Run Middle School Vision Statement and demonstrate a work ethic that reflects the importance of our mission. Place an emphasis on collaborative problem solving and decision making.
- Recruit and retain individuals who are best suited to advance the vision and goals of our school and create conditions that support their ongoing professional development. Strive to include faculty members and parents in the hiring process whenever possible and appropriate.
- Provide for the education of students in regards to Student Responsibilities and Rights.
- Foster the development and consistent implementation of policies, programs, and procedures, which maintain a safe school environment and create conditions that result in students assuming responsibility for their learning, decisions, and actions. Strive to respond to student conduct referrals within forty-eight hours, share relevant information with parents and staff promptly, and take action in a manner consistent with established expectations and regulations. Review and refine our procedures regularly to ensure efficient school operations.
- Promote the effective implementation of a standards-based curriculum. Ensure that the scope and sequence of the curriculum reflects a continuum of offerings that challenge all students. Strive to develop essential life skills in students that encourage them to become self-directed learners including the ability to read, write, speak, and problem solve. Support the development of instructional strategies and operational best practices that advance the vision of the school. Provide after school programs that support the academic mission and enrich the lives of students.
- Develop and implement policies, programs, and procedures to monitor and support school wide achievement, assessment, and student success. Review and refine our procedures regularly to ensure efficient school operations.
- Work with all school stakeholders to design a master schedule that protects the team concept, instructional and collaborative planning time, maintains reasonable class size, limits occurrences of cross-teaming, and provides supportive student services during the regular school day.
- Recognize and celebrate the efforts and achievements of the Rocky Run school community.
- Ensure a clean and inviting learning environment. Allow ready access to our building and grounds in support of after school community programs that benefit our students and their families.
- Establish business partnerships that provide a direct link between school and the work place.
- Fulfill our responsibility for good stewardship by managing FCPS' resources in a manner that addresses the needs of our school community.
