Letters About Literature
A contest sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. Students in grades 4 - 12 write to a favorite author and explain how his or her work changed their view of the world or themselves (and the author doesn't have to be alive!). The deadline is December 14, 2007, and there are state and national prizes, including a prize for the school library!

National Zoo Animal Resources
An online resource list for the national zoo.  You can find pictures, information, and live animal cams of the animals at the zoo.  It's like going on a field trip without leaving the school.

Georgia Aquarium
This is the official website for the Georgia Aquarium.  This is the largest aquarium in the world.  There is a lot of information here about different fish and sea creatures.  There is also an incredible webcam that features the whale shark; the largest fish species in the world.

A translation website for almost any language you could want. Type in your own text, choose the language, and the website will tell you the translation. The site will also translate other websites.

How Stuff Works
A useful website for curious minds. This site offers a HUGE selection of topics and explains how they work. There are also videos that show examples of these ideas. You can look at the most recent topics, or search for your own interest.

Brainpop
Brainpop is an animated site that has short videos on just about anything.  Many of them are free and for a small fee you can see all of them.  Tim and Moby take letters and show you all sorts of interesting things from all  sorts of subject areas.  Look at videos for science, English, civics, math, and even music.  Spend a little bit of time here and you can learn a lot.

Digital Book Talks
Ever wanted to book talk a book, but had trouble getting your students really interested?  Digital book talks does this for you.  This is a project out of the University of Central Florida that combines book talks with movie trailers.  The books are explained in the style of a movie, making students both curious and excited to read these books.
