IB Business Management HL

IB Business Management HL is a continuation of the first year course and is designed to provide a broad-range introduction to the basic principles and practices of businesses and other organizations, both profit-making and non-profit in nature as well as including a module on business strategy.  Fundamental principles and skills are studied in local, national and international context, thus affording the opportunity to reflect the differences in perspectives and cultures.

This course may serve as an elective (“Sixth Subject”) in the IB Diploma program, or may be taken independently for an IB Certificate. It carries a weighted grade of 1 on the student’s GPA.

For 2009, there will be 6 exams/tests during the coursework, which are based upon the 6 modules studied in preparation for the May exams. Class exams are of similar format to the May exams to give the student the best preparation. Modules studied include:

  1. Business organization and environment
  2. Human Resources
  3. Accounts and Finance
  4. Marketing
  5. Operations Management
  6. Business Strategy

This course includes the 1 additional module (Business Strategy) and additional units within the other 5 modules named above as well as applying theories and practices in detail to working/operational businesses.
