Robert Menefee was born and raised in Rappahannock County in Washington, Virginia and graduated from Rappahannock County High School where he was a 4 year letterman for the baseball team.  “Bob” as he is know to his friends, attended East Carolina University where he majored in Education and played baseball. After graduation and a stint in the United States Army Reserves, Bob relocated to Northern Virginia and began his teaching career at Mount Vernon High School as a Geography and Physical Education teacher. Mount Vernon is also where he began his coaching career in football and baseball. With the strong recommendation of local baseball legend Jim Moeller, Bob was hired in 1971 as a Physical Education teacher and the first Head Baseball Coach at the newly opened Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax, Virginia.

Bob headed the baseball program at Robinson for 19 years. During his time, his team won 4 District championships, 2 Regional Championships, was the state runner-up in 1978, and won the State championship in 1980.  He was voted Baseball Coach of the Year in 1980 for the Washington Metropolitan Area by the home Plate club of Washington D.C. and upon his retirement from coaching, Bob was elected for membership in the Home Plate Club Hall of Fame. More than 30 of his players went on to play collegiate baseball and 8 players played profession baseball. One of those players, Steve Dunn, played in the Major Leagues with the Minnesota Twins.

Bob became an educator because he loved working with kids and being a positive influence in their lives. The desire to help others did not end with his retirement from the Fairfax County Public School System. Upon retirement, Bob become General Manager of the Arlington Senators of the Clark Griffith League which comprised of college players during the summer. The Senators have won 3 National Championships under his leadership and continue to field nationally ranked teams.

The desire to help others in need is continuing with the endowment of the Robert Menefee Athletic Scholarship. This is a $5,000 which will be awarded annually to a Robinson varsity athlete.  Applications will be available April 1, 2008
