Welcome to our new 7th grade families, and welcome back to our returning 8th graders and
their parents. I hope you've all enjoyed a restful, fun summer and are ready for an exciting new
school year.

This is my first year as PTA President at Rachel Carson, and I am looking forward to getting
to know and work with you. The middle school years fly by, so don't wait to get involved. I know
many of you were active volunteers in your elementary schools, and I encourage you to remain
active in our school community. Whether you can give a few hours a week or a few hours once
this year, your participation is most welcome. You can register to receive emails about volunteer
opportunities at Carson by returning the volunteer form in your first day packet. This is the best
way to stay informed about volunteer opportunities.

Your first day packet also included a PTA Membership form. The PTA spends about $45,000
a year to support Rachel Carson activities. We rely on membership fees, Friends of Carson
donations and spirit dining activities to fund our budget. Please join the RCMS-PTA and attend
the monthly meetings. This will keep you connected to the school and give you the chance to
get to know Carson's wonderful administrators and staff. I look forward to seeing you there.
