Dear Parents:
Can you believe that the first quarter is almost over? I guess time flies when you are having fun, and from the looks on the faces of all the students I see in the halls, they are enjoying their school days at RCMS. I think the students are settling into their routines and I am too. I am always amazed at how all of the teachers and staff at Rachel Carson make it run so smoothly.

Thanks to everyone who let Subway do the cooking on Back to School Nights. The NJHS students did a great job serving everyone! It means a lot because all the money that we raise with our Subway sales goes back into Carson to help defray costs of things such as technology expenses and staff and student development.

I also would like to give a HUGE thank you to the parent volunteers who manned all the tables at Back to School Nights. Remember, if you did not get a chance at BTS nights to join the PTA or donate to Friends of Carson, it’s not too late! By joining the PTA, you are sending the message to your child that you care about him/her and their school. For many years, PTA has focused on a variety of children’s issues. Most of your money stays at Carson, but the money that goes to state and national PTAs helps support these programs. PLEASE JOIN PTA! If you would like to learn more, please visit www.pta.org.

I extend a very BIG thank you to Jeanine Dollard and her entire committee for their hard work on the directory. It is a huge undertaking. You can still purchase the directory in the office for $5.00. Checks may be made payable to RCMS PTA.

At the time of this printing, the magazine drive will be coming to a close. I would like to thank Susan Miller for all of her hard work coordinating volunteers and to Kerrie Peterson for her technological savvy. RCMS certainly appreciates all of you who have worked so hard to get those magazines sold and make the drive such a success!

Remember to sign up for Giant Bonus Bucks. Even if you registered last year, you must do so again this year. You may sign up at your local Giant or online at www.giantfood.com/aplus. Our school’s number is 03624. Encourage your friends and relatives to do the same, as it supports our children. Also, just like in elementary school, RCMS has a box top program. Last but certainly not least, I urge you to vote in the upcoming election. We need to make sure that whomever we elect is committed to our children’s education. Talk with your children and involve them in learning about the political process.

Please join us at our PTA meetings. I think I pretty much have the whole “make a motion” thing down by now. The meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Next month our November meeting will be held during open house at noon in the Media Center. Refreshments will be served; bring your appetites and ideas. Hope to see you there.
