Culinary Arts is an introduction
to basic food services skills that provides Pulley students a working
knowledge of food services techniques through lectures, hand on
projects, and catering. The students learn the basic skills needed
for food preperation at home or a career in the food service industry.
Some of the skills
include:
- Safety and sanitation
- Operating dishwasher and washing machine
- Identifying kitchen tools and equipment
- Purchasing food and monitoring cost control
- Organizing storage room and maintaining
inventory
- Table service (side work and setting
dining room tables)
- Following recipes
- Knife skills (cutting vegetables and
fruit)
- Preparing breakfast dishes, salad and
dressing, hot and cold sandwitches
- Preparing vegetable trays, meat trays,
fruit trays, cheese trays, and cookies trays for catering in
the school and the community
- Baking cookies, pies, breads, and cakes
- Preparing soups and other simple recipes
for students to make at home.
