Providence Elementary School is a Professional Learning Community, where we see tomorrow’s leaders in our classrooms today. The staff at Providence uses all available technologies to organize learning objectives, assess student needs, and provide appropriate learning opportunities for all students. All classroom teachers have received laptops, which allow them to take advantage of Providence’s wireless status. Teachers are trained on new technologies, instructional strategies, and they are given time to concentrate on individual technology needs.
The curriculum resource teachers enhance and extend classroom curriculum and provide alternative ways to demonstrate learning. The PES staff is committed to helping students become critical thinkers, problem solvers, decision makers and information users.
Our children need to be well prepared for their future in a technological world. They must know and understand how to use mathematics, science, and technology. Our state and our nation need people with the skills that match the new types of jobs of the twenty-first century. Therefore, students need to know and understand how to use mathematics, science and technology to reach the high standards with which they are challenged. As a math, science and technology focus school, the resource teachers play a vital role in the implementation of such a rigorous program designed to meet individual student needs. Having experts in these disciplines is essential if we are to maintain the high expectations required to produce educated citizens who will be our future leaders. The PES resource teachers are responsible for helping teachers implement current technology, math and science principles and practices. This might include coaching, co-teaching, joint lesson planning and staff development opportunities– all designed to provide fundamental support for classroom teachers. This teacher leadership is aimed at bringing about lasting improvement in teaching and learning.
