The fifth grade students have finished up their Ocean study. This unit focuses on the biological and physical characteristics of the ocean. Ask the kids to tell you about their mural or ocean in a box The kids are reviewing earth cycles in science resource (moon phases, eclipses (solar and lunar) seasons, day and night,)) and they will begin their study of light and sound shortly. The fifth graders are taking a trip to the planetarium in April to continue to reinforce the Earth, moon, sun relationship. Please, please, watch the night/day sky and try to get your kids to explain which phase of the moon is present. Some good sites we have used in science for review are: http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~dolan/java/MoonPhase.html http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/vphase.html http://paulcarlisle.net/mooncalendar/ - fun moon calendar http://sciencespot.net/Pages/kdzphysics4.html - a fantastic site on light and sound! http://www.exploratorium.edu/learning_studio/cool/kids.html - great all around site…excellent stuff for 5th graders! |
