Summer is the perfect time for kids to read a good book, visit a library, attend free programs and take a peek at the Art in the Pages sculptures found at library doors. Once school ends, visit a local library branch to sign-up for "Master the Art of Reading," the Fairfax County Public Library's 2008 Summer Reading Program. The library invites kids from preschool to high school to enjoy the magic of reading this summer. The library's reading program, held in cooperation with the Fairfax County Public School system, encourages students to read for pleasure during summer vacation.
The program runs from June 13 to August 30. Preschoolers through sixth graders read 15 books. (Children can have books read to them.) Students in grades 7-12 read eight books.
Kids who finish the required number of books receive coupons for free and discounted prizes donated by area businesses.
Kids also can enjoy free library events and activities all summer long. There will be magicians, a BMX stuntman, animal enthusiasts, puppeteers and more. Pick up a calendar of events at the nearest library branch or visit the library's Web page at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library. |
