- PTA Meetings
- PTA Meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month, typically at 7:00 p.m. in the Poe Middle School Library (check our PTA communications lines, see below, for any changes). All parents are welcomed, we encourage you to attend as many PTA meetings as your schedule allows.
- Communications
- The Poe PTA relies on several means of communicating the latest PTA news to you – Tuesday Folders, the Poe PTA Web Page and the Poe PTA Newsletter. See below for more details.
- Tuesday Folders
- The Poe PTA regularly communicates to you through the Tuesday Folder.
- Poe PTA Newsletter
- The Poe PTA Newsletter is written and produced by the Poe PTA. Delivered once a month through Tuesday folders and published to the PTA web page, the Poe PTA Newsletter provides the most current news about Poe PTA events and activities. You'll also find information about Poe Middle School events, and read contributions from Poe Middle School staff.
- Academics
- Reflections
- The National PTA encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual arts Reflections Program. The Reflections program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Poe PTA participates in the annual Reflections programs; we're proud of the artists among us.
- Grade-level Field Trips
- The PTA pays for at least one field trip, selected by teachers, for students per grade level per year. Field trips in the past have ranged from the new Air And Space Museum at Dulles Airport to the Smithsonian museums on the Mall.
- Recognition
- Teacher Appreciation
- Not only does Poe PTA host a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon during Teacher Appreciation week, we also find other ways to thank our teachers throughout the year. We welcome new teachers to Poe with a small monetary contribution, and we sponsor a Teacher Luncheon on their first day back to work (parents are asked to donate food items and volunteer to serve).
- Student Recognition
- Poe students receive well-earned credit when they achieve A/B Honor Roll. Poe PTA provides snack and juice at Honor Roll Celebrations for 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd quarters. And, we honor all graduating 8 th graders with the traditional 8 th Grade Promotion Picnic and a special gift.
- Fundraisers and Events
- Fall into a Bag Fundraiser (pdf)
- Box Tops for Education
- Poe PTA participates in the General Mills Box Tops for Education, which helps America 's schools earn cash through very everyday activities – the simplest -- buying groceries and clipping box tops. Look for information on how you can support our PTA.
- Poe Spirit Wear
- What better way to show school spirit than to wear a really cool T-shirt sporting the Poe Raven? Long sleeve or short sleeve, gold or black, we've got you covered. Spirit Wear is sold all year round, with a kick-off sales event in the fall. Order form (pdf)
- Ice Cream Social
- This is a family night where parents, students, teachers and administrators celebrate our community – and get to treat themselves to ice cream. Teachers and parents volunteer to serve ice cream.
- Rock N Raven and March Madness (pdf)
- These are school-wide parties held on a scheduled Friday afternoon, immediately after school. Pizza, pick-up games in the gyms (basketball, volleyball) and even a DJ and dancing make for a lot of fun. Rock N Raven is held in the fall, and March Madness in March. Poe PTA provides all refreshments; Poe parents volunteer to ensure tons of fun and safety.
- PTA Membership (pdf)
- Did you know that your membership to the Poe PTA is also a primary fundraiser? Your membership shows your commitment to your child's future and most immediately provides you a voice in Poe PTA, but also benefits us by providing needed funds for PTA programs, such as those listed in this catalog.
