Algebra I Honors By state and FCPS regulations, parents of middle school students who take a high school credit course in middle school have a right to have that course grade/SOL score expunged from the student's academic record. Middle schools need to ensure, through proper communication, that parents are aware of the procedure for expunging grades for high school courses taken in middle school. In the case of Algebra I Honors, the following guidelines need to be followed. In 7 th grade : Parents may request that a student's Algebra I Honors grade be expunged after the completion of the school year. A formal written request needs to be made before the beginning of the second quarter of the next school year. Once the school receives the written request to expunge the Algebra I Honors grade, the middle school Director of Student Services will need to complete the necessary steps needed to completely remove the Algebra I Honors course from the child's transcript. If a 7 th grade student/parent requests that the Algebra I Honors grade be expunged, then the following may happen:
In 8 th grade : Parents may request that a student's Algebra I Honors grade be expunged after the completion of the school year. A formal written request needs to be made to the high school the child will be attending before the beginning of the next school year Once the school receives the written request to expunge the Algebra I Honors grade, the high school Director of Student Services will need to complete the necessary steps needed to completely remove the Algebra I Honors course from the child's transcript. Foreign Language In 7 th grade : Parents may request that a student's Immersion 1 grade be expunged after the completion of the school year. In 8 th grade : Parents may request that a student's Level 1 or Immersion 2 grade be expunged after the completion of the school year. A formal written request needs to be made to the high school the child will be attending before the beginning of the next school year. Once the school receives the written request to expunge the foreign language grade, the high school Director of Student Services will need to complete the necessary steps needed to completely remove the Level 1 or Immersion 2 course from the child's transcript. If you have any questions regarding foreign language, please contact Paul Patrick, Foreign Language Coordinator, at 703-208-7724.
Please Note: Please note that by requesting a high school course taken in middle school be expunged from the school record, outside people who have access to the child's academic transcript will not necessarily know why the course was expunged. Once the course and grade are removed there will be no evidence on the transcript that the course was ever taken. When parents request a student's grade be expunged, the credit is also expunged. This will affect the number of credits (and verified credits) required for the Advanced Studies Diploma. For example, if a child in 7 th grade expunged an Algebra 1 Honors course and in 8 th grade expunged a Geometry Honors course the child is no longer eligible for an Advanced Studies Diploma. |
