Poe Middle School looks forward to welcoming Helen Love to our staff next year. Helen is from Scotland and will be with us on a Fulbright teacher exchange. She and Theresa Defazio are exchanging jobs for the year.

Students in Mrs. Fitzwater's class are creating a Diversity mural outside the cafeteria. The mural's theme reflects the student body's many backgrounds and the varied subjects taught at Poe. Look for future postings as students continue to work on it in class and after school.

Poe Middle School was pleased to partner with Starbucks for this year's READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY celebration in March.  After 30 minutes of wonderful uninterrupted reading time, students and staff enjoyed apple juice and vanilla bean scones donated by Starbucks.  It was a great morning!  Thank you Starbucks!  See our pictures.

When we began the activity today, I had the "bubble" wound tightly into a ball to represent a "point". I unfurled it into a "segment", and we measured its length. Next, I opened the line into a "square". We had previously calculated its area, so I was able to point out that because it has two dimensions, the area is measured in square units. Finally, I turned on the fan, and the square rose into a "cube". Three dimensions, therefore, means measuring in cubic units. This caused a great many "Oh!"s to circulate about the room.

The students were adamant they did not want to go home today! Score!!!
