On January 27, 33 students competed in our third annual spelling bee, sponsored by the PTA and Poe’s English teachers. Congratulations to sixth grader Lailah Said, who spelled R-E-V-I-S-I-O-N correctly in the championship round. Natnael Samuel was the runner up. Lailah will compete at the March 13 County Bee at Hayfield Secondary School. If she wins that, she will compete in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in May. Thanks to the spelling bee volunteers—Nora Oney, John Wineberg, Catherine Hawkins, Anita and Steve Dienstfrey, Megan Hardy, Nora Watts, Michelle Augustyn, Jan Haymore, and Suzanne Mehrnama—for all their efforts!
