How are special education students placed at Pimmit Hills High School?
Prior to enrolling special education students at an alternative high school, the base school must send the Alternative Education Placement Referral Form to the director, Office of Alternative School Programs.
The director of alternative school programs will review and forward the packet to the appropriate alternative school.
Referring school staff must discuss the student with the alternative high school staff concerning the appropriateness of placement.
After receiving notice to convene an IEP, the base school will invite the alternative high school representative to the IEP meeting. If the alternative placement is determined to be appropriate at the IEP meeting, the student and parent may schedule an appointment to register.
How are students placed at Pimmit Hill High School by the Hearing Office?
The Hearing Officers may place students in the alternative high schools based on information determined at a disciplinary hearing.
A letter is sent to the student’s parents outlining the required procedures.

At the beginning of each semester and as students complete their classes the master schedule is judiciously scrutinize to see which teachers have the largest concentration of special education students.
Priority is given to SOL classes and those classes that have a greater concentration of special education students. The special education department will make an effort to place a special education staff member in that class to help whenever possible.
If teachers need a test read out loud, a book on tape, or additional tutoring, the teacher should contacts us and we will try to provide the accommodations in your class or in the learning cottage.
If LD staff is not available, the teacher needs to provide that accommodation, however, we try our best to work with every teacher.
All teachers are welcome to participate in all conferences to include the Individualized Education Program and Re-Evaluation Conferences.
The department sends out Accommodation Reports for all students that are in your classes so that you are aware of any accommodations that are necessary for the success of that particular special education student that is in your class.
Students, who are eligible for related services such as Speech and language services, may require additional support. These services are provided to these students with as little disruption as possible to the instructional program.
