Instructions for PHHS - SOL Study Guide
This program is designed to work specifically with MS Internet Explorer! Other browsers may not function properly.
Please read and follow these brief instructions entirely before proceeding!
In the left frame you will notice
English,
History,
Math and
Science "Subject Headings" with sub-headings which are the End Of Course (EOC) classes for the Eleventh Grade. (English is an exception since SOLs from each high school year are included on the EOC examination.)
Next to each heading is a
red triangle. Clicking on a red triangle will
open or
close a HEADING, CLASS, SOL OUTLINE or Complete SOL Listing. Click on the triangle next to
English 9 now and you will see the nine SOL Outline Headings
9.1 through
9.9. (Some of these headings have been simplified from the original VA SOL listings due to page-size constraints.) Click on the triangle next to
9.1 - Plan, present... and the SOLs are presented in a complete alphabetical listing. a), b), c), etc.
Notice that when you point your cursor at "Class Names", "SOL Outline Headings," and the "Alphabetical SOL Listings," an underline appears under the words. This is a hyperlink that will present more information about that strand in the right window frame.
Before you click on these links, remember that you can get back to this instruction page by pressing the browser "back" button or by clicking on the Instructions link which is always in the left Frame.
Click on the English 9 class link in the left window, and in the right window frame appears the class SOL learning outline and Test Blueprint links. English has two blueprints, one for reading and the other for writing. These are the actual VA SOL Test Blueprints, except they have been edited for the web and the Blueprint summary tables have been moved to the beginning of the document.
If you click on the SOL outline number, such as English "9.1 - Plan, present, & critique readings of literary selections" you will see the actual VA Curriculum Framework in the right window which gives a more in-depth explanation of the "Essential Knowledge," "Essential Understandings," and "Teacher Notes" about each SOL strand.
Finally, if you click on the alphabetical listing of the SOL strand, (for example: "a) Choose a literary form for presentation, such as a poem, monologue, scene from a play, or story") a window opens that may contain any reading material, book page references, exerceises, activities, tasks, or even a test about that particular strand. Some courses, such as History, have a curriculum framework eplanation and hyperlink to EVERY SOL strand. In such a case, a hyperlink may be added to any of the strand explanations. The Professional Learning Community here at Pimmit will be filling these pages with original instruction, remediation, vocabulary lists and any other teaching materials we believe will help ALL students prepare more successfully for the Virginia Standards of Learning Tests. We are living the PLC concept and believe that there should be "No Child Left Behind."
Text size may be adjusted by clicking on View on your Internet Explorer Menu Bar and selecting ,Text Size from the pull-down menu, and then select Largest, Larger, Medium, Smaller, OR Smallest. Every effort has been made to make these outlines (When opened to the maximum alphabetical SOL listing) fit on one or two printed pages for easy reference. Your actual printout may vary according to font-size selection and printer model.
