ESOL students bring with them a rich diversity of cultural and linguistic backgrounds to which they are adding the English language and American culture. ESOL students come from a wide variety of educational backgrounds, ranging from extensive to little or no formal schooling. Their acquisition of English as a second language is affected by many factors including their educational background and prior experience.
