Careers and Learning Grant

Pimmit Hills High School was the recipient of a 3.2 million dollar "school to work" grant that began during the 2000-2001 school year. Our mission was to prepare students for life after high school. Funding was used to build or enhance career centers, add updated, new computers available for all students, offer new, user friendly software, outfit science labs, install a weather detecting device and much more. The grant ended in 2003, but has allowed for the continuation of programs developed during the three year grant period. The Fairfax County School Board has agreed to fund the positions necessary to keep the programs running.

At Pimmit we work as a Career Team that includes Didi Crowder, Career Development Coordinator, Dianne Cullum, Career Specialist and Kathy Lear, Employment and Transition Specialist. We work as a team to make a transition plan for each student. We offer field trips, college visits, job shadowing, internships, career days, mentoring, computer classes, college, technical school, and apprenticeship information and a variety of experiences to help students make decisions about post secondary education and training. We work with teachers on career units and help students to find and apply for jobs.

As a team, we understand that the SOL (Standards of Learning) tests are extremely important. We have developed and support many programs that are directly linked to SOL standards.

Career experiences and career planning is available to all Pimmit students.

Career Research Assistance is available for all Pimmit students in the career lab.
