What's New at Parklawn?

Veteran's Day Celebration

On Veterans Day, Wednesday November 11th, the Parklawn Chorus gave a special performance. Veterans in the Parklawn community, including many parents were the special guests as the Chorus performed a program on Heroes for the whole school. All the 4th and 5th graders in chorus did a wonderful job with their four songs. They opened with The Star Spangled Banner and This Land is Your Land. The next piece, Everyday Heros, featured 4 soloists who brought many to tears. The last song was Agents of Change, a crowd favorite that got everyone on their feet!

Laps for Learning

Students, teachers, and families attend the 2nd Laps for Learning at Parklawn on Saturday, October 3, 2009. It was a great time of exercising, socializing, and fundraising for our school. The event was a HUGE success and our particpants helped raise over $2,000 for Parklawn's PTA. Thank you to all who came out.

Our Girls Can Run!

On Saturday, May 16th, Parklawn's 40 Girls on the Run participants ran in the Girls on the Run 5K race at Fair Oaks Mall. Everyone did a fantastic job at the race! Thank you so much to the coaches, Mrs. Fischer, Ms. FrickTordella, Ms Rodriquez, and Ms. Ziegler for making this event possible for our girls. A special thank you to all of the teachers, friends, and family members who participated as buddy runners as well. We are so proud of our Girls on the Run!

Happy 50th Anniversary Parklawn!

This school year marks the 50th anniversary of Parklawn Elementary School. Parklawn opened in the fall of 1958 as an intermediate school. Three years later students from Lincolnia Elementary School were moved to Parklawn, and it has been an elementary school since then.

On April 28, 2009, the school community marked its 50th anniversary with an assembly involving past and present administrators, teachers, students, and parents. A student from each grade read about Parklawn's past and their vision for the future. Former Parklawn principals, including the first principal, Mr. Herman Lloyd, shared their thoughts and wisdom as part of the festivities. In keeping with the theme of past, present, and future, every child in the school received 50 pennies and a coin bank in which to store their "dream pennies." Each of the 50 pennies represented the hopes and dreams and every child who has entered Parklawn's doors over the past 50 years.

Parklawn Helps the Homeless

The Parklawn SCA collected donations for their 'Help the Homeless' campaign during the month of February. Great job Parklawn and thank you for your generosity.

Bingo Night Fun!

Wednesday, February 4th was PTA's annual Bingo Night and again it was an evening of fun for everyone! Many Parklawn families came to play Bingo and try to win one of the many overflowing gift baskets being raffled off. Towards the end of the evening one could hear students chanting, "One More Game! One More Game!" Some did not want the evening to end. The PTA would like to thank all of the people who were there to help make the event a huge success!
