MentorWorks

MentorWorks, Officer Sasha

Parklawn's Mentorworks Program is now in its eleventh year of existence, providing over 50 students with adult mentors.

Our mentors come to us from a variety of sources, including ASCD, one of our business partners, the Fairfax County Mason district police department, and members of the community and our school staff.

Our mentors spend a half hour a week with their mentees engaged in a variety of activities including playing chess, reading, shooting baskets, and simply sharing with one another.

Our mentors cultivate caring relationships with the students and emphasize positive decision making as well as school success skills.

Our Mentorworks participants were the recipients of an award from Fairfax County for their dedication. Officer Nichols who mentors a fourth grader here at Parklawn was honored as Mentor of the Month for Fairfax County, January 2007. Also an article about Parklawn's Mentorworks program has been published in the Educational Leadership Magazine (May 2004).
