On Tuesday, October 30th, the 6th grade was privileged to have visitors from the U.S.S. Constitution, which is moored in Boston, Massachusetts. Celeste Bernardo and Nancy Gedraitis are musuem docents and SN Mark Long and AN Quincy Booth are crew members from the ship. Throughout the 60 minute presentation, students were able to actively participate by touching artifacts from the ship and watching two of their classmates dress up as sailors of the time. The two crew members came dressed as a current day sailor and as a sailor in the 1800s.
The favorite part of the presentation was the unveiling of the fish. It didn't take everyone's nose long to realize that what was to be presented next was something fishy. The 6th graders now have a greater appreciation for what life was like on the U.S.S. Constitution.
