Marketing

The marketing program provides general and specialized courses leading to various marketing career choices. Specialized training includes career preparation in such areas as advertising, entrepreneurship, fashion marketing, event marketing, hotel management, media marketing, mall marketing, and sales promotion. Course work in the Marketing Education curriculum is expanded to include application and integration of technology and core academic competencies. Also students may elect to earn additional credit and wages through participation in supervised on-the-job training related to their classroom instruction.

In addition, DECA is an association of marketing students. All marketing students in Fairfax County are members of this co-curricular club. DECA activities supplement the instructional program by providing opportunities for student leadership. Annual events include local, state and national competition.

Cooperative Education:

Students may elect to seek part-time cooperative education employment while concurrently enrolled in a related marketing course. Students who successfully complete 270 hours of supervised on-the-job training in a related occupation will earn one credit. Students who successfully complete 540 hours of supervised on-th-job training in a related occupation will earn two credits.

Marketing:

This course is designed for students interested in studying a variety of marketing concepts. Instruction will include the relationship of products, prices, and promotions to the marketing of goods and services to consumers. Students may supplement the classroom instruction through participation in an internship experience, or they may enroll in the course without the additional commitment required through on-the-job training. While enrolled in this course, the student is an active member of DECA, an association of marketing students.

Advanced Marketing:

Students develop marketing competencies necessary for full-time employment and job advancement in marketing or merchandising. The course includes an introduction to management functions within an organization with emphasis on merchandising, sales promotion, marketing research, and the process of organizing a marketing business. While enrolled in the course, the student is an active member of DECA, an association of marketing students.

Fashion Marketing I:

This is a specialized option that enables students to investigate and prepare for careers in fashion marketing and design. The objective is to provide students with preparation in the technology of fashion merchandising that will lead to immediate employment and/or become the basis for continuing education. Students may supplement the classroom instruction through an internship experience, or they may enroll in the course without the additional commitment required through on-the-job training. A trip to the New York garment district may be included.

Fashion Marketing II:

This curriculum provides an in-depth study of merchandising techniques, fashion trends, fashion promotion, and management skills. Students may supplement the classroom instruction through an internship experience, or they may enroll in the course without the additional commitment required through on-the-job training.

Sports Marketing:

Sports and Entertainment Marketing is a unique and innovative course designed for students with an interest in the sports and entertainment industry. Instructional areas include: an orientation to the sports and entertainment industry, market analysis, decision making, event marketing, event execution, the production of a culminating event and analysis of the event. Classroom instruction will be reinforced through the use of outside lectures, case studies, and field trip experiences.
