Dress Codes

Fairfax County Public Schools Dress Code (R2601.19P) Effective August 2005

Clothing that has the following images is prohibited :

  • Vulgar
  • Discriminatory or obscene
  • Promotes or depicts
    • Weapons
    • Drugs
    • Alcohol
    • Tobacco
    • Drug paraphernalia
    • Violence
    • Gang or gang symbols*

Headgear is not allowed except for religious or medical reasons. Medical reasons must be cleared through your child's administrator. Students should not have any other headgear visible during the school day.

Clothing should fit, be neat and clean, and conform to standards of safety, good taste, and decency:
Cleavage and private parts must not be exposed.
Midriff may not be exposed at all.
Undergarments (bras or underpants) may not show.
Sexually provocative clothing is prohibited. Specifically (but not limited to): sagging or low cut pants, low cut necklines that show cleavage, tube tops, halter-tops, backless blouses or blouses that reveal a large percentage of the back, blouses with only ties in the back, and garments made of see-through material.

Students not complying with this code will be asked to cover the non-complying article, change clothes, or go home. Repeated violations will require disciplinary action.

*Gang-related: tattoos, display of apparel, jewelry, accessories, or manner of grooming that by virtue of its color, arrangement, trademark, or other attributes denote membership in a gang or advocates illegal or disruptive behavior.

Parents of students requiring accommodations for religious beliefs, disabilities, or other good causes should contact the principal.
