WEDNESDAY COLLABORATION/REMEDIATION
November 18th is a Collaboration Wednesday and English and Fine Arts teachers will be available to students for remediation.
Change in Collaboration Schedule: December 23 is a two-hour early release day; therefore, we will not have Collaboration on that date. English remediation scheduled for the 23rd of December is now assigned to December 16th.
THANKSGIVING PRE-ARRANGED ABSENCES
November 25th is a non-collaboration Wednesday and an early release day for all students. If you plan to pick up your student before the scheduled early dismissal time, please send in a note to the Burgundy or Gold office prior to that morning. Please do not call the office to have your student released early. At this time, we are accepting notes for early dismissal for the week of November 23rd.
FEDERAL IMPACT AID
Each year the presence of federal activity in Virginia affects Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) operating budget. The school system is requesting your assistance in identifying federally connected students for the Impact Aid federal grant program. FCPS uses the Student-Parent Survey to complete this effort. Beginning October 30, 2009, the survey will be distributed to all FCPS families and available online (PDF format).
For each school-age student in your household, please complete, sign, and date the survey and return the completed survey to your child’s school by November 6, 2009. The information that you provide will be treated confidentially.
If you need additional information, please call 703-329-7655 to speak with a Department of Information Technology staff member. Additional information about the Impact Aid program is available on the U.S. Department of Education web site at http://www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/oese/impactaid/index.html.
SENIORS MEETING WITH COUNSELORS
Counselors will be scheduling 5 minute mini-meetings with all seniors during Collaboration Wednesdays and continuing for the next several Collaboration Wednesdays. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss post-secondary options. Each senior who has not already met with their counselor will be required to attend. Counselors will contact each senior with the date and time of this meeting.
SENIOR SWITCH DAY
Senior Switch will occur on November 25th. Forms may be picked up in the main office.
FINANCIAL AID PROGRAM
Oakton High School will present a Financial Aid Program for Parents on Wednesday, December 2nd in the school Auditorium. FLE Opt-Out Forms Due
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, non-punitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, please access the opt out forms for each grade level at http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/OMSI/fle/index.htm and then click on “FLE optout forms and program descriptions”. Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to your child’s school. Your child will be included in all Family Life Education instruction unless you request that he/she be opted out using the opt-out form. You do not need to return the form to the school if you wish for your child to participate in FLE instruction. If you return the opt-out form and later decide you want your child included in FLE instruction, you must notify the principal in writing. Go to: http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/OMSI/fle/index.htm and then click on “FLE opt-out forms and program descriptions”.
