 FCPS 24 /7 Learning Parent Guide
To register for your own Parent View Account...
- Account Creation: Create an account following the directions on the handout:
Creating An Account Handout PDF or, for a detailed guide with images, click here.
Be sure to keep your unique identification key.
- Account Validation: Bring a Photo ID and the unique registration key to the Office at Oakton Elementary School.
Upon successful validation, your username and password will be emailed to you.
- When you receive your username and password, you can now logon to FCPS 24-7 Learning Parent View. Here is a PDF guide for using Parent View.

(Registration and Validation only need to be completed once. You do not need to re-register each year for an account. If you have additional children now enrolled in FCPS, they can be added to your existing Parent View account. See below for more details. 1. What is “Blackboard” (FCPS 24/7) and how do I access it?
FCPS 24-7 Learning is the online resource that allows Fairfax County Public Schools students to extend learning beyond the traditional school day and beyond school facilities. Students, parents, and teachers are invited to use FCPS 24-7 Learning:
- to access homework and classroom assignments
- view class calendars
- explore links to enrichment activities
- update emergency contact information
- much more
All FCPS students K – 12, have access to FCPS 24/7 by going to fcps.blackboard.com. The username for all students stays the same each year. It is always the child’s student ID number. This number is found on registration paperwork, progress reports and other school documentation. If you are unable to locate your child’s student ID number, you can contact the classroom teacher. At the elementary level, the classroom teacher also sets the password each year. Contact your child’s teacher if you are unsure of your child’s password.

2. What is “Parent View”?
Parent View is an optional service that allows FCPS parents to create their own FCPS 24/7 learning accounts. For parents who have multiple children enrolled in FCPS, it makes it convenient to view each child’s Blackboard courses through a single portal. After registering and having their account validated at one of their children’s schools, parents will have their own username and password. This gives parents access to all of their children's available courses, as well as their high school students’ career and college planning through Family Connection. Additionally, parents will be able to update their children’s emergency information through weCare@school. 3. My child doesn’t know how to log into Blackboard (FCPS 24/7). What should I do?
To begin, go to fcps.blackboard.com. For login information, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. He or she can provide you with your child’s password. The username for your child is always the child’s student ID number. This number can be found on progress reports.

4. I don’t have a Parent View account. Does that mean that I can’t access Blackboard (FCPS 24/7)?
No, you do not need a Parent View account to access Blackboard. You may simply use your child’s account to view his or her school courses. Parent View is simply an optional account that parents can create to view all of your children’s Blackboard courses under a single log in.

5. I’ve used my Parent View account to view my child’s Blackboard course, but I don’t seem to have access to the class blog or wiki. What’s wrong?
Please know that there may be times when content from a child’s classroom Blackboard course (class blogs and wikis, for example) will not be visible with a Parent View account. These items are only visible when a student uses their assigned username and password to log in to Blackboard. A Parent View account is considered a “guest” account. By default, guests are not allowed to view blogs and wikis. Other content in a course may also be restricted to guests. To view the full content of a Blackboard course, simply use your child’s username and password to log in.

6. I’ve registered before for a Parent View account. Do I need to renew my registration each year?
You only need to register for a parent view account one time during your children’s career in FCPS. There is no need for annual updates or re-validation.

7. I now have an additional child enrolled in FCPS. How do I add them do my existing Parent View account??
No, you only need to add that child to your existing account. Directions for doing so can be found on page 5 of this PDF document.

9. I’ve forgotten my Parent View Password. What do I do?
Read below or refer to this handy PDF.
Forgot your password? Fairfax County Public Schools has implemented a self-service process for changing your password, when you cannot remember it. This is a fast and easy way to change your password. You can find the “Forgot your password?” link under the login for your username and password at fcps.blackboard.com. Click on the link and follow the step-by-step process.
Below you will find tips for a successful experience.
Tips for using “Forgot your password?” link:
1. Parents may use this feature after validating their account at their child’s school.
2. All entries are case sensitive.
3. Only enter information in one option (either Username OR Email).
a. Username Option
i. First Name and Last Name: These fields must match what was used when registering for your Parent View account.
ii. Username: Use your unique username, such as jdoe100. This was given to you during the validation process at your child’s school. If you have forgotten or lost your username, please contact the FCPS 24-7 Help Desk at 1-866-434-8880.
b. Email address Option
i. First Name and Last Name: These fields must match what was used when registering for your Parent View account.
ii. Email: This is the email address that is associated with your FCPS 24-7 Learning account. If you have changed your email address in FCPS 24-7 Learning since your account was validated, use the most current email address.
Note: Changing an email address in weCare@school module does not change your email address in FCPS 24-7 Learning.
After using either option, an email will be sent to the email address associated with your FCPS 24-7 Learning account. The email will give step-by-step instructions on how to reset your password. For security purposes, your password must be at least 5 characters and cannot be reset to your previous password or your username. If you need further assistance, please contact the FCPS 24-7 Help Desk at 1-866-434-8880. Students can contact their instructor if further assistance is needed.
