Newington Forest Elementary School serves approximately 640 students in a modern physical plant opened in 1983. A supportive, dedicated professional staff provides a productive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population.

The school supports the Basic School philosophy with its emphasis on community, curriculum, climate, and character. A team-oriented structure encourages cooperation and consideration among all members of the staff. Strong community support is evident for various instructional thrusts through the outstanding work of volunteers.

Opportunities for staff and community involvement in school-based leadership are promoted. High expectations exist for faculty, staff members, and community members to work cooperatively and collaboratively to fulfill the goals and objectives of the Newington Forest School Plan. Objectives in this plan underscore a school and community commitment to improving student achievement, especially in the areas of reading comprehension, written communication, and mathematics.

The importance of using assessment tools that measure how well school plan objectives are achieved is a focus for staff development. Newington Forest staff and students enthusiastically pursue new learning opportunities each day. There is also a strong commitment to our students with special needs.

Staff members believe strongly that each child at Newington Forest is entitled to quality instruction, a safe learning environment, and guidance toward self-reliance, self- discipline, and self-motivation.

Our school’s mission is:

  • To deliver the highest quality instruction, accepting that all students can learn regardless of their background.   All students should and will achieve.
  • To promote strong character and respect among every student – no exceptions.
  • To accept our responsibility to partner with families to promote student success.
  • To support school staff in their pursuit of professional growth.
  • To constantly evaluate our achievements in meeting our goals and to work for constant improvement.
