I love my job because I get to work with students at all different grade levels. My work involves a lot of collaboration with other teachers, and that’s fun too. I get to learn so much from my colleagues here at Navy.

As a child I traveled a lot and even lived in Europe. I graduated from William and Mary and then went on to VCU for graduate study. After completing my master’s degree, I stayed at home for many years taking care of my five children. In 1998 I came back to teaching. During that time I’ve been learning more and more about the development of literacy. I’m also interested in how brain research informs teaching strategies.

Some of my favorite things are Jazzercise, National Public Radio, children’s artwork, and yoga.
