Mount Vernon High School website has received a WebStar Award!
Assistant Superintendent Barbara M. Hunter presented a WebStar award to Anne McCracken, web curator and principal Nardos King and Asst. Principal Esther Manns of Mount Vernon High School. The new FCPS WebStar Awards will be awarded three times each year by the Department of Communications and Community Outreach to the web curators of three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school for school web sites that best demonstrate the following criteria: usefulness of content, clarity of design, ease of navigation, and adherence to FCPS web policies.

The MVHS Ritmo Latino Dancers danced at the at the White House Communications Agency Hispanic Heritage Month program on October 8, 2008. Ms Gonzales, a Spanish teacher and the sponsor of the dancers, accompanied the students from Mount Vernon to the White House.

As part of the "Reaching Back and Lifting Up" conference sponsored by the Just the Beginning Foundation, students from Mount Vernon High School had the opportunity to hear a panel of lawyers discuss legal careers, participate in a mock trial, and attend a reception where they met Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Three judges, Janice Wellington of the Prince William County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, Stanley Klein of the Fairfax Circuit Court, and Lisa Bondareff Kemler of the Alexandria Circuit Court, spoke with students at Mount Vernon High School. The judges shared their life stories and advice on making the most of the opportunities life provides.
