This WebQuest's Building Blocks:
Introduction
The National Geographic Society was founded in the USA on January 27, 1888, by 33 men interested in "organizing a society for the increase and diffusion of geographical knowledge." Since then, this organization has added a variety of persons to help them accomplish their goal. Recently, you and your group members were contacted by the Society and asked to take jobs as researchers for the National Geographic magazine. Having decided to accept this employment, you have just been assigned to work together on the magazine's expose for next month's edition - Nigeria.
Task
It is the early 1890s and tensions in Nigeria have been mounting. The British have been colonizing Nigeria for some time now, and they have started to send in Christian missionaries to convert the Nigerian Africans to their way of life and religious belief system. Specifically, the British and their missionaries are targeting an African tribe in Nigeria known as the Igbo.
In order for the readers of National Geographic to get an accurate picture of what is going on in Nigeria with the Igbo, your team of researchers will have to write articles on a variety of subjects. Remember, the society was created "for the increase and diffusion of geographical knowledge," so be very careful while writing your magazine articles to report on the topics listed under Process and Resources thoroughly and with accurateness. Use Microsoft Publisher to create your newspaper.
AVOID PLAGIARISM! You are to read the articles associated with your research role and then write your article or articles in your own words! Do not cut and paste information from websites - you will not receive credit for the project in this case. If you have any doubts about what plagiarism is, please take this tutorial, You quote it, You note it!
