The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP) is an inclusive, comprehensive, in-depth course of study for students in grades seven through ten. It provides a framework for academic rigor in the following content areas:

  • Language (A) English
  • Language (B) Foreign Language
  • Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Technology
  • Arts
  • Physical Education

The IBMYP emphasizes the interrelatedness among the academic principles to promote a holistic view of knowledge. It also emphasizes the importance of intercultural awareness, language study, and communication. The IBMYP is organized around five Areas of Interaction that further integrate the academic subjects. Areas of Interaction include the following: Approaches to Learning, Community Service, Health and Social Education, Environment, and Homo faber ("Man the maker").

Walt Whitman and Mount Vernon High School have been authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to deliver the Middle Years Program to students in grades six through ten.
