Agenda/Homework
Books:
Top
All students in
grades 1-6 should maintain an agenda/homework assignment notebook.
Parents and teachers will initial it on a daily basis. This serves
as a constant communication between home and school. It is very
important for you to examine this notebook daily to assess your child's
daily progress. The first notebook is given at no cost. There
is a fee for a replacement. BEFORE and AFTER school are the best
times to make contact with teachers on the telephones. Office personnel
are available between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily.
Homework:
Top
The purpose of homework
is to provide essential practice in needed skills and to enrich and extend
school learning experiences.
Voluntary
School Uniform Policy:
Top
Mount Eagle has adopted
a School Uniform Policy. The uniform may be purchased from local
vendors. Information regarding the uniforms is available at the
school. The uniform consists of the following:
- White top to include:
button down oxford/blouses, tee-shirt without logo, polo shirt, sweatshirt,
or a Mount Eagle Elementary top.
- Navy blue bottom
to include: slacks, shorts, skirts, jumpers and sweatpants.
Please no jeans.
- Shoes: there
will be no uniform policy relating to shoes.
Parent
Teacher Conferences:
Top
Parent-Teacher conferences
can be scheduled any time during the school year at the request of parent/guardians,
students, and school personnel. Please feel free to request a conference
whenever you desire. For the first grading period a parent-teacher
conference is scheduled for the 1st nine weeks of school, usually in the
month of November. All parents will be sent conference slips to choose
a time to meet with their child's classroom and/or resource teacher.
Every parent is encouraged to attend conferences. Foreign language
translators are available for parent conferences.
The parent-teacher contact
provided in a conference meeting is an invaluable means of establishing
the child's attitude toward school and in developing a cooperative relationship
between school and home. The value of telephone conferences is recognized,
and in fact encouraged, as a supplemental means of allowing both parent
and teacher to construct a truer picture of the child's total growth and
progress. However, telephone conferences can not replace the value
of a face-to-face conference meeting. Additional information on parent-teacher
conference is in the handbook.

or legal guardian (court documents must be shown to school officials).

Virginia law requires
that a child who will be five years old as of September 30th must be enrolled

Transfers:
Top
If you move from our
school area during the school year, PLEASE notify the office several days
in advance. This will ensure a packet of the student's school records
being ready on the child's last day and will make the transition to another
school much easier. Copies of birth certificates and social security
cards are no longer kept in students' permanent files.
Class
Placement:
Top
All students are tentatively
assigned to classes during the first few days of school. Much study
is given to the placement of each child. Students may be moved from
one room to another when careful study indicates this would be to their
advantage. Every attempt is made to place children of similar interests
and needs in classes where a combination of grades is necessary.
Absences:
Top
Every effort should be
made to make sure students are at school every day. A lineup bell
rings each day at 8:15 a.m. If your child must miss school due to
illness or emergency, please call the main office at 703-721-2100 to report
absences. Please try to schedule routine appointments during non-school
hours whenever possible.
School personnel will
call you if the office is not notified of your child's absence.
When your child returns to school he or she must bring a note from you
explaining the reason for his or her absence. The parent/guardian
will be notified after a student has been absent or tardy for five (5)
days. A parent or guardian conference will be requested after 10
days, and the social worker/attendance officer at the Cluster V office
will be notified.
Emergency
Care Cards:
Top
At times, your
child may become ill while at school At the beginning of the school
year, we ask you to complete an emergency care card. If the information
on this card changes during the school year, please notify the school
office. Only persons designated on the emergency card will be allowed
to pick your child up from school!
Special
Dismissal Procedures:
Top
During the school day
children are released only on written request from parents or guardians.
When you know that your child must be released during school hours, send
a note to the teacher stating the time you will be in the office to pick
up your child. The office staff will call your child from the classroom
for you. If someone other than a parent or guardian is to pick up
a student, they must be listed on the Emergency Care Card and a note should
be sent from home stating who is picking the student up from school.
Children must not leave the school grounds once they have arrived at school
without obtaining permission from the office.
Busing:
Top
It is very important that our school be accountable for students during bus transportation. All students must ride their designated bus unless a written note from parents is brought to school and signed by the principal. If a student is going to ride a different bus or get off at a different stop, a written note from the parent that has been approved by the principal must be presented to the driver before the student boards the bus. Parents/guardians must meet the bus for FECEP and/or kindergarten students.
Notes
From Parents: Notes from parents are required for the
following:
Top
- Absences from school.
- Leaving school.
- Kindergartners who
are to get off the bus at a different stop.
- Tardiness (Parents/guardians
must come in with the student).
Dangerous
Instruments:
Top
Recently there have been
several incidents of students possessing laser pointers and using them in
ways that could cause damage to the eyes. The United States Food and
Drug Administration is cautioning parents and school officials concerning
the use of these devices. It is the position of Fairfax County Public
Schools that these devices should not be brought onto school property or
into the school building. Possession or use of a laser pointer in
school, on school grounds, on buses, or while attending a school-sponsored
activity will result in immediate confiscation. Further disciplinary
action will be administered at the discretion of the principal or designated
staff.
Knives or any instrument
considered a threat to others, i.e. studded bracelets, may not be carried
to school. Police will be notified in any situation involving weapons.
Bicycles:
Top
No students - walkers,
or bus riders, regardless of age, are permitted to ride bikes, to school.
There is no place to secure bikes and due to the heavy traffic patterns,
bike riding to school poses a safety and a security problem.
Toys:
Top
Please remember students
are not allowed to bring any electronic toys to school (no radios, CD
players, Gameboys, Gigapets, etc.). In addition, students must not
bring laser pens, paint balls, or paint ball games, sharp objects, or
anything else that may be considered a weapon. Toys and valuable
personal items should be left at home.

ill or injured at school, his parent will be requested to come for him/her.
Sick children may not remain at school. In case of such an emergency,
we must have a telephone number where parents can be reached.

The school is not permitted
to administer medication to a child unless a school medication authorization
form is filled out and signed by the parent or guardian. Over-the-counter
medication may be given for less than three days, an antibiotic or antiviral
medications for fewer than 10 days. If medication is to be administered
for more than 10 days, a physician is required to fill out Part 11 of
the medication form. Please contact the school clinic to obtain
the medication form if medication is required during the school day.
Medication must be brought to school by the parent or guardian.

of school personnel.

or arrange with your child's teacher when you plan to visit. Preschool
children, or children visiting in the home, are not permitted to remain
