Department Descriptions

Career Development Coordinator

·  Provide information and counseling on options after high school including post secondary education, military, full time and part time employment, apprenticeships and internships, and entrepreneurship/self-employment

·  Team with the Employment Transition Representative and NVCC Career Coach to ensure each graduating senior has a post secondary transition plan

·  Work with the Learning for Transitions Committee to frame and implement a broad, inclusive and sequential career program

·  Serve as point of contact for career center and career experience initiatives

·  Increase individual student’s access to career experiences by promotion of the county-wide opportunities

·  Collaborate with Mountain View Departments and teachers to provide classroom units on specific career related topics

·  Serve as liaison with business partners and FCPS Partners-In-Education program

·  Chair the Mountain View Scholarship Committee to fund and provide scholarship monies for graduating seniors

·  Coordinate and compile data to support career initiatives

·  Seek sources of funding for Mountain View initiatives

 

School Based Technology Specialist

·  Provide informed leadership for the school by assessing the current use of technology in the building and make appropriate recommendations for curriculum connections and technology purchases

·  Develop differentiated technology training for teachers and school staff

·  Provide support for school staff members in the areas of curriculum connections, trouble-shooting and appropriate use of software

·  Assist teachers in meeting state technology requirements

·  Collaborate with teachers and model best practices in integrating technology

·  Serve as the point of contact for all central and local technology purchases, installations, upgrades and repairs.

·  Assess software and hardware problems, implement solutions and coordinate repairs.

·  Act as the liaison between the school staff and divisionwide technology resources

·  Local network administrator

·  School Web site curator.

 

Library Media Specialist

·  Collaborates with students and other members of the learning community to analyze learning and information needs

·  Provide teachers and students with specific opportunities to develop sophisticated skills in information literacy, including the uses of information technology

·  Work with teachers, administrators, and other staff--both to expand their general understanding of information issues and to provide them with specific opportunities to develop sophisticated skills in information literacy, including the uses of information technology

·  Work closely with individual teachers in the critical areas of designing authentic learning tasks and assessments and integrating the information and communication abilities required to meet subject matter standards

·  Develop policies, practices, and curricula that guide students to develop the full range of information and communication abilities

·  Provide leadership and expertise in acquiring and evaluating information resources in all formats

·  Masters sophisticated electronic resources and maintains a constant focus on the nature, quality, and ethical use of information available in these and in more traditional tools

·  Advocates for the library media program and provides the knowledge, vision, and leadership to steer it creatively and energetically in the twenty-first century

 

Technology Support Specialist

·  Assist with user accounts and maintain server integrity

·  Update software as required by ISD or IT

·  Repair or refer for repair all computer related equipment

·  Install software as requested by departments

·  Install peripheral equipment

·  Plan for future technology needs of the school

·  Assist students with logging onto machines and basic technology needs

·  Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure that all technology needs are met to fulfill the technology plans of the school

  Technology Coordinator

·  Developing the school newsletter

·  Providing aid to the staff involved in the production of the year book

·  Assisting teachers with technology integration in the classrooms (i.e. software and hardware usage)

·  Providing support to teachers in planning lessons that will involve the use of technology

·  Aid teachers in the carrying out of the lessons that may required technology support

·  Researching various strategies that will allow for differentiated instruction as they relate to technology

·  Other duties as required

 

NVCC Career Coach
  • Offer students interest inventories and other self assessment activities, resources for career research, and assistance with decision-making and goal setting/action planning.
  • Help student decide what type of post-secondary training they need to pursue career goals and provide information on NOVA and other colleges and universities.
  • Assist students with senior transition plans and resume writing.
    Guide students through the NOVA admission, registration, and placement test process
  • Offer workshops and possibly a dual enrollment NOVA student development course which will cover career exploration, college selection and success skills, federal and state financial aid, private scholarships, and more
