INTRODUCTION

In November of last year, you won the election for Governor of Florida.  It was a close election and the media has given considerable attention to your lack of government experience.  Now, with the Approach of Hurricane Miguel, you are facing the first big test of your abilities to make decisions and lead the state.  You will need to become knowledgeable in several different topics related to government and hurricanes.  This activity, involving Hurricane Miguel and the state of Florida, will test not only your ability to solve problems, but also your ability to communicate what you know to others.  Good Luck!

PERFORMANCE TASK

Your task is to prepare a press release which informs the citizens of your state and which addresses the following question.

Should south Florida be evacuated?

There is no right or wrong answer.   No matter which decision you recommend, you must support your conclusion with facts from your research.  Safe guarding the population and property of your state is your primary concern. Many different and sometimes competing factors will need to be assessed.  Follow the process below to collect your data.  Then write a press release that informs the citizens and announces your decision backed by your findings.
